Mala Mala Game Reserve

MalaMala Game Reserve is the original photographic private game reserve destination in South Africa . MalaMala’s world acclaim can be attributed to the quality and consistency of the game viewing experience - a prime draw-card for some of the world’s most renowned wildlife photographers and filmmakers. It should therefore come as no surprise that MalaMala has also provided the subject-matter for many a celebrated wildlife book.

MalaMala’s unparalleled reputation is not only gained from interactions with Africa ’s Big 5. The safari experience is imparted by highly qualified rangers, most of whom have university degrees in the natural sciences and are thoroughly conversant with all aspects of bushveld ecology. The Shangaan trackers have a fabled understanding of the bushveld passed down through the ages by their fathers and their fathers’ fathers.

MalaMala offers a choice of three camps: the new luxury camp, Rattray’s on MalaMala (a thoughtful reinvention of the traditional Into Africa safari experience) offers the discerning traveller with exclusive accommodation in just 8 “khayas” (meaning “home” in Zulu) for a maximum of 16 guests. No more than 4 guests partake in each safari at this magnificent camp. Sable Camp (7 suites) and MalaMala Main Camp (18 rooms, including suites, family rooms and a room with disabled facilities) reflect an authentic bushveld camp atmosphere.

But ultimately it’s the environment and how it’s experienced that makes MalaMala what it is today. With the resources at its disposal, and the experience of over 40 years as a leader in its field, MalaMala Game Reserve is well-established as a premier safari destination in southern Africa – and the world!

Mashatu - The Land of the Giants

Located in the north-eastern Tuli Block of Botswana, Mashatu is the largest privately owned game reserve in southern Africa. Mopane veld and open acacia savannah stretch southwards to the thick riverine vegetation of the mighty Limpopo River. Two of Africa's giants are found here: massive time-worn baobab trees stud the plains where huge herds of elephant roam. Indeed, Mashatu protects the largest herd of elephant on private land in Africa today.Interwoven with this natural tapestry are reminders of man's presence in ancient times. In the north-eastern part of Mashatu, black eagles nest at the Motloutse Ruins, the remains of an ancient civilisation thought to be connected to the dynasty of Monomatapa.
