Wild Dog Pups
(All Images Taken By Craig Jackson)
On the 9th of June 2009, our alpha female, Cairo, gave birth to her second litter of pups. After four weeks the pups began to surface and we counted a total of 13 puppies. This is well above the average litter size of 9-10 pups. All 13 are still alive more than two months later, and becoming very brave and bold. They have now started following the adults when they go out hunting, and move 200-odd metres away from the den before being chased back. Cairo has also started joining the hunt for the first time since giving birth. The pups are now sometimes left alone at the den without a babysitter during the hunt. This, in combination with their bold attitude, makes them rather vulnerable. Lets hope all goes well, as it did with last years pups.
